At The Tailored Tail, we craft our products to last. With the right care, your pet's accessories and grooming tools will stay beautiful and functional for years to come. Follow this guide to keep everything in top condition.

Collars, Leashes & Harnesses

  • Leather: Wipe with a damp cloth. Apply leather conditioner monthly. Avoid soaking in water.
  • Fabric/Nylon: Hand wash with mild soap and warm water. Air dry completely before use.
  • Metal Hardware: Wipe dry after exposure to water to prevent rust. Polish occasionally with a soft cloth.

Pet Beds & Cushions

  • Check the label — most covers are machine washable on a gentle cycle.
  • Use a mild, pet-safe detergent.
  • Air dry or tumble dry on low heat. Avoid high heat to prevent shrinkage.
  • Fluff and reshape after drying.

Grooming Tools

  • Rinse brushes and combs after each use to remove hair and debris.
  • Disinfect weekly with diluted pet-safe disinfectant.
  • Store in a dry place to prevent mold or rust.
  • Replace blades or bristles when worn for best results.

Toys & Accessories

  • Inspect toys regularly for wear, tears, or loose parts.
  • Clean rubber/plastic toys with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
  • Fabric toys can be hand washed and air dried.
  • Replace any toy that shows significant damage to ensure your pet's safety.

Travel Accessories (Carriers, Bags)

  • Spot clean with a damp cloth after each trip.
  • Air out carriers regularly to prevent odors.
  • Check zippers and clasps for smooth operation before every use.

Storage Tips

  • Store accessories in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep grooming tools in a dedicated pouch or drawer.
  • Avoid storing damp items — always ensure products are fully dry before storing.

When to Replace

Even the best products have a lifespan. Replace items when you notice:

  • Fraying, cracking, or structural damage
  • Persistent odors that don't wash out
  • Broken hardware or faulty closures
  • Any part that could pose a choking or safety hazard
